I didn’t realize that a funeral was part of the American Dream regardless of the costs …. I’d be more than happy to miss out on that as a guest, and surely as the main act.
Apart from that: Yes, there are lot of big ticket items. However, whether a particular one is part of your individual dream, American or otherwise, is your choice. For some it may just be being with family and friends and not having to worry about how to fill the fridge, where to live and what to wear.
I wish everyone all the best with accomplishing their dream, whatever it may be in their case!
Good stuff, Manfred ... as a writer, appreciated the tongue-in-cheek funeral comment ...
Kidding aside, my guess there (I referenced the analysis, but obviously didn't do the research) is that the folks who created that were trying to give readers a kind of across-the-board "slice of life" (or, in this case, death .. lol) .. maybe after asking: "Okay, what outlays are common/predictable/relatable to the U.S. way of life?" And then worked from there.
I think the foundational thinking has merit ... we could debate the execution ... if we had access to those folks.
And we did come away with an assessment that many not be 100% on point in terms of accuracy ... specificity ... but maybe that's not so much the point or goal .... perhaps its magnitude that makes us sit up and take notice.
Lastly, as you say, it is choice ... and that fact that we have it is what makes it a remarkable country to live in ... and I've seen the alternatives ... as I'm sure you have, too.
Good comments ... appreciated your taking the time to share them. And I especially liked and appreciated your closing sentiment.
I don't know about that. I contend trade, and don't invest. Your crazy if you held through 2022. Nuts. Coo coo in the coconut! Use your brain.
