I love a good story.
I think in terms of “storylines.” So I’m constantly sifting through the narratives playing out around me. That’s how I process — and make sense of — the world that I see.
This story-based mindset was solidified during the 22 years I spent as a reporter, a career that earned me national recognition for my award-winning work covering big public companies, Wall Street, the economy and sectors like defense, biotech and finance.
My most memorable interviews included: Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, former U.S. President Richard M. Nixon, General Electric CEO John F. “Jack” Welch and Forbes magazine publisher and former presidential candidate Steve Forbes.
The storylines I chronicled traveled in all sorts of directions — and took all sorts of forms: They spotlighted winners and losers, featured heroes and villains, and captured happiness and grief.
They also unveiled threats … and opportunities.
For folks like you and me, seeing and understanding those storylines is investing gold.
Find the threats … and you avoid the losses.
Find the opportunities … and you’ve found some of the best places to make money.
Wall Streeters refer to this as “top-down investing.” You investigate the “big picture” trends and storylines. Then you drill down and identify the sectors and specific companies that’ll be winners.
Those Big Money institutional players refer to storylines as “investing narratives.”
I prefer to avoid that “institutional jargon” and keep things simple, just knowing that the most powerful storylines lead to the most powerful profits.
It’s how you build wealth over the next three, five, eight, 10 years or more.
At my previous publication, I followed the best half dozen or so dominant storylines at any single moment — knowing that most “narratives” remain relevant for a number of years.
That’s another part of wealth building — being active and understanding how the world is shaping around you.
Here’s why I’m telling you this.
I truly believe that it’s always a “stock picker’s market.” And by following the best storylines, you’ll find the best stocks.
That’s how we intend to operate in our “corner” of the investing world. And it’s why we created Stock Picker’s Corner (SPC).
We’re glad you’ve joined us here.

Can you review my portfolio or help me with an investment question?
The team members and affiliates are not investment advisors or financial planners and cannot provide personalized investing advice.
If I haven’t invested before, can you recommend a brokerage to use?
While we can’t recommend a specific brokerage, there are plenty of resources that outline the different features of different brokerage services … so you can research and find the right one for you. NerdWallet reviews brokerages here, Forbes reviews them here and Bankrate reviews them here.
Can you help me with a question about my Substack account?
Substack has a customer support page, which you can find here.
Substack also has a reader Help Center with answers to commonly asked questions here.
What do I get with the paid subscription to Stock Picker’s Corner Premium?
The Model Portfolio
Bill has created a “Model Portfolio” which you can use as a starting point for your research. Choose the stocks and other investments you like – and adapt them to your goals.
And pass on any ideas you’re not comfortable with.
Dossiers
All of the positions in the Model Portfolio will have an accompanying dossier that includes everything you need to know to aid in your own investing research.
Me and my team have done our best to vet these ideas … and framed them out as fully as anyone can.
All of the dossiers will be on the Model Portfolio page.
Farm Team
In addition to the Model Portfolio, Bill will also have a “Farm Team” of assets he’s watching but that are not quite ready to be “called up” to the Model Portfolio.
It could be that he wants to see a company like Tesla Inc. (TSLA) get through this tough stretch of distractions – like Musk’s compensation – or production issues – like with the Cybertruck being recalled and how long it will take to mass produce – before adding it to the Model Portfolio.
It could be that he wants to see the “Next Acts” for a company like Apple Inc. (AAPL) and how well they execute in the artificial intelligence (AI) and health space.
And it could be some up-and-coming opportunities – like Quantum Computing – that he knows will be big … are still developing. He just wants to give some of these companies and ideas a little more time to make sure his thinking lines up right.
But there’s nothing that says you can’t use these Farm Team ideas as a starting point for your own investment plays.
You may see these companies mentioned from time to time for all of our members, but SPC Premium members are the only ones who have access to the full Farm Team list.
Tales from the Platinum Rolodex
In addition to his own insights, developed during his decades of experience as a reporter, stock picker, and analyst, Bill has a “Platinum Rolodex” … a roster of top experts in areas like energy, tech, cryptocurrencies, precious metals, private-equity investing, emerging trends and more … whose insights he’ll regularly share with you.
Quarterly Roundtable
Each quarter, Bill will call up an expert or multiple experts for a “state of the market” address.
They’ll go over what’s happening, what’s going to happen next, and most importantly, how to build and protect your wealth.
These roundtables will be ever-evolving, and can cover topics like income-investing, gold, silver, copper, AI, The New Cold War, The Biotech Revolution and more.
And we’ll bring more features your way as SPC evolves and grows.
